RUNNER OF THE MONTH - DECEMBER 2022

In our running community group on Facebook we see inspirational stories and journeys nearly everyday. The running journeys that our members go on are important to us and we love talking and interacting with our members everyday. We have decided to make this our special page to show a runner each month from our community who not only have inspired us but also impressed us with there effort, progress and general love for running.

december 2022 Runner Of the month - amrik thapar

One of our longest members Amrik has been with The Running Community for just over 4 years now!

Amrik has done absolutely amazing with his running throughout 2022 covering over 2000 miles and not only that his running alone in December was consistent hitting his goals and achievements no matter what the weather was! Amrik has shown a huge support to other members in the group which is great to see!

A message from amrik

Hi I’m Amrik … I’m a Asthmatic that loves to run!

My running journey started back in 2015/16. My journey began when I was involved in a car accident and suffered bulging discs in my neck and spine. I was in severe pain for about 3 months, and I was unable to work or get around at all. I was unhealthy and over weight which didn’t help with the situation. The physio treatment I received only helped a little and pain medication wasn’t working either. So I took it upon myself to change my lifestyle and get fit. With small changes to diet and then going to the gym helped me. I started running on the treadmill and discovered that I really enjoyed it. I did this for a while then moved onto running outdoors. This is when things really started to change for me. I started off slow and ran short distances and slowly increased the distance and kept on pushing forward. There were times I stopped due to my illness and running injuries, but I got back out there and kept on pushing myself and I began to get stronger and was able to run longer and further than I could ever of imagined.

With this new found confidence I ran my first race back in 2017, the Bedford Half Marathon and from there I’ve ran several races. I run mostly alone all the time, I choose to do this as I don’t have to rely on anyone. This has made me focused and disciplined. I train in all types weather, no matter what the conditions. I have learned it’s all about having a strong mindset and a saying which has helped me throughout;

“Never negotiate with yourself, stick to the plan”

And with that I was able to run 2005.4 miles in 2022 after having covid over Christmas 2021 into New Year 2022. This is the most I have ever ran in my entire life and to think back before I started I couldn’t even run to the end of road. The support I receive from The Running Community is amazing, I have connected with so many wonderful athletes (that’s what every member is) and the support I receive is immense. I am truly grateful even though I’ve never met any of you, i consider you are my running family. I hope I have helped and inspired my fellow runners with my journey along the way. #onamissiontoinspireothers
